The 45th annual Joe Kirkwood Memorial Tournament will be held June 21–24, 2012. Joe Kirkwood was a world-renowned golfer who is credited for “doing more to popularize the game of golf around the world than anyone in his generation.”
For the last 9 years of his life he was the Head Professional of the Stowe Country Club. His legend, character and spirit still inhabit Stowe Country Club; this is never more apparent thanduring the 4 days in the early summer when friends from across the country, as well as around the world, come together to celebrate his life the way he would have wanted . . . by playing a little golf. Fittingly, the Joe Kirkwood Tournament benefits Stowe Junior Golf. Stories still survive of Joe playing 4 holes with one club against the junior golfers, the winner getting a shiny new golf ball for their efforts. Our Junior program provides over 100 kids between the ages of 7 and 14 the opportunity to learn the game through an 5-week instructional program. For the past 4 years, the Kirkwood has sponsored 12 older juniors with full memberships to the Stowe Country Club.
All flights will tee off for their final matches on Sunday morning in an 8:30 shotgun start. For the integrity of the event and in respect of your competitors we ask that you make every effort to remain for the Awards’ Ceremony. Awards will not be given out prior to the ceremony.
